Marking its tenth anniversary, Portugal Masters is returning to Vilamoura, Portugal this October 20-23rd 2016. This European men’s professional golf tournament is the richest tournament in the country and in the top half of European Tour events. The prize fund for Portugal Masters stands at an impressive €2 million.
The event is co-produced by the Portuguese Tourist Board and the European Tour and is hosted by the luxurious Oceânico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura, Algarve. The golf course is designed by Arnold Palmer, a retired American professional golfer regarded as one of the greatest players in professional golf history.
Last year saw Andy Sullivan as the winner of the event, with the lowest score of any past winner at 261. The British golfer returns again this year to defend his title.
The Oceanico Victoria
The site for Portugal Masters 2016 is considered one of the most sophisticated golf courses in Europe. Opened in 2004, the 18 hole course covers about 90 hectares and care has been taken to preserve the wetlands and local vegetation of olive, almond, and carob trees. There are also a number of lakes which function as reservoirs for irrigation and mirrors of water.
